Barely has one weekend past and I’m practically drooling over the long 4 day Easter weekend, hurrah indeed! If you want a break from the overindulgence of chocolate eggs and large sleep-inducing roast dinners, then you’ve come to the right place. Check out our oh-so-handy guide to what’s on for families in Berkshire this weekend (19 – 22 April).

Windsor Great Park Wildlife Trail, Savill Garden

6 – 22 April 2019, 9.00am – 5.00pm

This Easter, use all your senses to become nature detectives and learn more about the treasure trove of plants and wildlife that makes Windsor Great Park their home. Working alongside Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust come on a journey to discover the amazing local wildlife. Starting from the Savill Building, follow the trail and use your detective skills to look for clues in nature, whilst enjoying the beauty of the Great Park around you.

The trail is suitable for all ages as well as being suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs, and at approx. 2km should take about an hour. The trail costs £3.50 per sheet and there’s a small prize available at the end of the trail. We did this trail at the weekend and highly recommend it.

Binfield Easter Egg Hunt

This year the Binfield Easter Egg Hunt is running from 13 – 22 April 2019. It’s back for the 4th year, and it’s going to be another fantastic hunt. There will be over 25 eggs to be found around the village, simply buy a map for £2.00 from either Crema Coffee Shop or Binfield Village Stores, have some fun and return for a treat at the end (one per map). With pubs, cafes, shops, playgrounds and a library en-route, come and have a fun day out.

World Horse Trail, Windsor Town Centre

Now until 31 July 2019

Bring the children into Windsor Town Centre to find the 10 unique horse statues around town until 31 July 2019 in the World Horse Trail. All you need to do is pick up a location map from Royal Windsor Information Centre or Windsor and Royal Borough Museum and see if you can find all ten! Each horse is unique and has their own story and design, painted by patrons and supporters of World Horse Welfare including Sara Cox and Martin Clunes. The trail is aimed at highlighting the World Horse Welfare’s work.

Visiting Farm Animals at Cobbs Farm Shop, Hungerford

They’re back for a special Easter Monday visit! Furry friends from Farms 2 Ewe will be at Cobbs on Easter Monday, why not bring the kiddies along to say hello to some very cute little animals. It’s totally free to meet the animals (entrance fee still applies for the Play Barn) and it will run from 11.00am – 3.00pm.

Don’t miss the Easter Family Fun Day at Grenfell Park in Maidenhead this weekend on Easter Saturday, from 11.00am – 3.00pm. The event is aimed at families with children from 0 – 12 years and is free to attend. During the day there will be an Easter egg hunt, face painting, bunny mask painting, and many other children’s activities. There will be refreshments available for visitors, including ice creams, hot food and freshly made tea and coffee.

The Easter bunny has hidden clues across the Oakley Court Hotel and the grounds and your little ones need to help to solve the puzzle. Pick up your clue sheet from Reception, and off you go!

A delicious treat will be waiting for children who solve the puzzle. Best of all there’s no charge to take part. Winner!

Toy Box Explorers Show at The Lookout Discovery Centre, Bracknell

This fun show looks at the science behind toys! Come and help the presenter play with the toys and

Shows run at the weekends and during the school holiday at 11.00am, midday, 2.00pm and 3.15pm. The show costs £1.95 per person on top of your admission fee to The Lookout. Shows are suitable for primary school aged children and don’t need to be booked in advance, just buy your tickets from reception when you arrive.

Nature Eggspert Trail at the Nature Discovery Centre, Thatcham

7 – 23 April 2019

This Easter bring the kiddies to The Nature Discovery Centre in Thatcham for the Nature Eggspert Trail. The trail will be available over the Easter holidays from Sunday 7 – Tuesday 23 April. You’ll need to keep your eyes peeled as you make your way around the centre grounds and take in everything that’s on offer.

The trail costs £1.50 per child (50p per additional child) and includes a small prize at the end of the trail. Dogs are welcome on a lead.

Breakfast or Tea with the Easter Bunny at Wyevale Garden Centres

Hop along to your local Wyevale Garden Centre and meet the Easter Bunny! Tuck in to a delicious meal, and enjoy a bunny hunt and chocolate treats. Children will receive a cuddly toy and an activity sheet, afterwards they’ll get to decorate their own Easter chocolate. Costs £10.95 per child and is suitable for children 3 – 8 years.

Participating garden centres in and around Berkshire: Hare Hatch, Heathlands Wokingham, Marlow, Sherfield on Loddon, Thatcham, and Winnersh.

16 & 17 April – Family Circus Skills and Trapeze Workshops

18 – 22 April – Circus Wellingtonia Easter Circus Spectacular

21 April – The Mega Egg Hunt and Easter Crafts- come to Wellington Country Park for the annual mega egg hunt and help find 12 giant easter eggs hidden around the park. Use the treasure hunt map to solve the clues, forms are available from 9.30am at the main reception.

Cadbury’s Easter Trail – Springing into Life at Cliveden National Trust

Explore Cliveden’s Spring gardens on the annual Easter Trail where children will leap into spring with an interactive, nature-themed Easter trail. At the end of the trail children will receive a special Cadbury chocolate egg, or a non-sugary alternative.

The trail runs from 6 – 23 April, 10.30am – 3.30pm and costs £3.00 per child. No need to book, just turn up, collect your trail map from the visitor centre in the main car park and enjoy the great outdoors. To find out more now, click here.


Easter Biscuit Decorating & Easter Trail at Stubbings Garden Centre, Maidenhead

Throughout the Easter school holidays bring the kiddies to Stubbings to decorate their own Easter biscuits. This popular activity returns in the café, this time with an Easter theme. You’ll get a gingerbread bunny with all the trimmings to create an edible masterpiece. Costs £3.25 per child.

From Good Friday to Easter Monday come and take part in the Easter Trail through the beautiful listed Victorian Walled Garden at Stubbings. Hand your completed forms in at the café till and receive a chocolate treat.

Create your own bug hotel – The nursery will be focussing on gardening to promote insects and wildlife and so there will be a free create your own bug hotel activity.

Crowthrone Spring Trail

Crowthorne Trails are fabulous, low cost, all weather outdoor activities providing an entertaining way for the whole family, young and old, to explore the Crowthorne area. Residents living within the area of Nine Mile Ride, Old Wokingham Road, Dukes Ride, Heath Lake, and New Wokingham Road, have created an Easter themed display to show outside their homes. There are also displays at Hatch Ride School, on Crowthorne High Street and at the Pinewood Centre. Families can purchase a map revealing the location of each display, and visit as many as you wish by foot, cycle or scooter. Maps are just £2.00 each. Return the map where you got it to receive a yummy treat.
