Robin Hood – A Musical Celebration at South Hill Park, Bracknell

17 – 19 & 23 – 27 August 2018

Following the summer sell-out successes of Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan and The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, South Hill Park presents Robin Hood, David Wood’s enchanting tale for all the family. Take a journey around the musical Maypole and into the English countryside with a troupe of village players as they delight in the tales of Robin Hood. Share in the stories of Friar Tuck, Little John, Maid Marian and more in this lyrical production. This production will be an enjoyable and visual treat for all the family.

The show will run in the Wilde Theatre from Friday 17 – Sunday 19 August and then also 23 – 27 August. It’s suitable for children from ages 5 years +. To find out more and get your tickets, click here.

 

Family Zoo Day, Berkshire College of Agriculture, Burchetts Green

Saturday 18 August 2018

The hugely popular BCA Family Zoo day is taking place this Saturday 18 August and you can get your tickets here now. This is a great day for families and will give you the opportunity to look around the zoo and watch the keepers doing educational talks, feeding displays and handling demonstrations. We went in July and we all really loved it, highly recommended!

Tickets can either be bought for the morning slot (9.00am – midday) or the afternoon slot (1.00 – 4.00pm). Ticket prices are £8.00 for adults, £5.00 for children, and free for children under 3 years. All ages are welcome, tickets must be purchased in advance. Parking is available on site and the zoo is entirely buggy accessible.

Unicorn and Dragon Weekend at Wellington Country Park

Bring the kiddies to Wellington Country Park on 18 and 19 August 2018 for the Unicorn and Dragon Weekend!

  • 10.30am Gilbert’s Golden Egg Story Time (lasts approx 15/20 minutes)
  • 11.30am Gilbert’s Golden Bogies Show (lasts approx 40 minutes)
  • 1.15pm Unicorn Disco (lasts approx 30 minutes)
  • 2.45pm Gilbert’s Golden Bogies Show (lasts approx 40 minutes)
  • 3.45pm Unicorn Story (lasts approx 15/20 minutes)

Plus… Meet a unicorn on the Main Green in the green and white marquee between 11.00am and 4.00pm. There will also be inflatables from 10:30am – 4:30pm (weather permitting) including bouncy castles and an obstacle course. Dragon treasure hunt available from 10:30am to 4:00pm. Dragons have been to the park and hidden items in different locations… can you help us find out what items they have left?

Maidenhead at the Movies 2018

Friday 17 – Sunday 19 August 2018

Maidenhead at the Movies is a free outdoor cinema running over 3 days in Kidwells Park. This year the action packed weekend will be taking place on Friday 17 – Sunday 19 August 2018. Each day four films will be shown; there will also be a funfair and catering in the park but feel free to bring a picnic as well. You can expect a great selection of films from recent hits to older classics and something for all ages. All films have now been announced, and include; Peter Rabbit, Wonder, Despicable Me 3, Coco, Paddington 2, The Greatest Showman, Moana and Ferdinand. Reading Dragon Boat Festival 2018

Sunday 19 August 2018, 10.00am – 4.00pm

This weekend is the Reading Dragon Boat Festival 2018. A great day out for all the family, this year it runs on Sunday 19 August when teams will be taking to the river in the ultimate Dragon Boat challenge! You could be part of the fun too, you just need a team of 17 over 16 years of age and you’ll need to register in advance, click here for info. Spaces were limited at the time of writing this so act fast to avoid disappointment. If you’d rather watch from the safety of the river banks, this will be a great fun event for spectators to cheer on. There will also be plenty going on away from the water with funfair rides, appearances from popular Star Wars characters, and food and drink stalls. Free parking is available on the day (use RG6 1PQ for Sat Nav). The event will take place on the River Thames at Thames Valley Park Riverside, Reading, RG6 1PQ.

Thames Valley Police Open Day, Sulhamstead

Saturday 18 August 2018, 10.00am – 4.00pm

Thames Valley Police are opening their doors again for the annual force Open Day. Bring the children along to get behind the scenes and see what life in the police force is really like. See the police helicopter and team. Meet the mounted and dog sections for a pat and chat. Learn about different departments, and visit the police museum. Come and join the fun this Saturday at Thames Valley Police Training Centre at Sulhamstead, near Reading (RG7 4DX). Entry is free, no admission before 10am and last entry is 3.30pm. Food will be available on site, this will be cash only. Come dressed in your best police outfit on the day to be in with the chance of winning a prize in the children’s fancy dress competition.

The Superhero Show at The Lookout Discovery Centre, Bracknell

Saturday 18 & Sunday 19 August 2018

Are you a superhero? Bring your little ones to The Lookout Discovery Centre in Bracknell from 21 July – 2 September 2018 for The Superhero Show. This is a great science show where you’ll look at super strength, invisibility and you’ll have lots of fun with science experiments. Shows run at the weekends and during Bracknell school holiday times, at 11.00am, midday, 2.00pm, & 3.15pm.

Family Fun at Norden Farm this Weekend

Saturday 18 & Sunday 19 August 2018

The Beach – The ever popular Maidenhead Beach is back, all summer long – this year inspired by the laid back tropical paradise that is Goa. It’s free to play on every day with beachside tables available for snacks and lunch from the Café Bar (including children’s picnic bags). Enjoy the beach on Saturday and Sunday this weekend.

The Incredibles 2 – this hit sequel to The Incredibles is showing this weekend at Norden Farm. You can catch the film at 11.30am on Saturday and 4.30pm on Sunday. Prices from £5.00. Click here to book your tickets.

Kite Workshops – This Saturday get involved at Kite Making workshops at Norden Farm. Sessions take place at 11.30am & 2.00pm and cost £3.00 per child. Make and decorate your kite and then bring it to fly in the skies at the Community Kite Festival on 2 September at Boyn Grove Park. Find out more here.

Trainmaster Children’s Event, Newbury

Saturday 18 August 2018, 10.00 – 11.00am and 11.20am – 12.20pm

If you have a little one who loves trains then they’ll love our play sessions! You can come along by booking an hour of play, adults are free and there will be free tea, coffee and biscuits too. There will be lots of track, trains, fancy dress, reading books, crafts and 2 ride-on trains for children to enjoy during the session. You can also get sibling, multiples and group discounts when you book.

Family Cycling Day at Blenheim Palace

Sunday 19 August 2018, 9.00am – 5.30pm

Enjoy this unique annual opportunity to cycle around the picturesque Parkland of the World Heritage Site at Blenheim. Bring your bicycles (and helmets) and take in the scenery and fresh air, stop for a picnic, and make it a day to remember. There’s no age restriction for children participating in Family Cycling Day, but they must wear appropriate safety equipment and they must be accompanied by an adult at all times. There’s no need to pre-book, just turn up with your bikes and off you go! You will need a Park & Gardens Ticket or Annual Pass to get access to Blenheim. Pirates, Pants and Wellyphants at The River & Rowing Museum, Henley

Saturday 18 & Sunday 19 August 2018

Nick Sharratt, the man behind the instantly recognisable illustrations for Jacqueline Wilson’s Tracy Beaker books, is the subject of this colourful, humorous and hands-on exhibition. The fun packed exhibition explores Nick’s passion for drawing, from childhood to his current status as an internationally renowned illustrator and author. The exhibition features many of the well-known characters that Nick has illustrated, including Tracy Beaker, Daisy, Hetty Feather and Pirate Pete, as well as a host of animals, and vast quantities of food and clothing!

Visitors can immerse themselves in Nick’s world, find out about his childhood and what inspired him to become an illustrator, and meet a host of the characters that he has created throughout his career. Families can enjoy visiting a recreation of Nick’s studio and have a go at drawing a selection of his characters using a light box. A touch screen interactive enables you to create your own digital ‘Sharracter’, and a wipe clean wall is available for everyone to have a go at drawing their own Nick Sharratt inspired picture! Have a go at dressing up in a selection of whacky costumes, including a mermaid’s tail, some very fancy pants and a pineapple!
