Over the last few years we’ve worked tirelessly to try and find Berkshire’s best afternoon tea, all in the name of research of course… And with Mother’s Day just around the corner **Sunday 11 March, ahem** we thought now was the perfect time to share some of our faves with you. So here’s our handy guide to some of the best places to get afternoon tea in Berkshire.
**Some of these fab places are booking up fast, so you may need to be flexible on the date you book for. But hey, a card with the promise of an afternoon tea still floats my boat, and some things are worth waiting for**
The Vineyard, Stockcross, Newbury
The Vineyard at Stockcross offers an iconic and very British afternoon tea. Food is served on a statement wine box in elegant five star surroundings in Berkshire. You’ll be served delicately produced cakes, warm scones and finger sandwiches. Afternoon tea is served daily from 3.00 – 4.30pm and prices start from £29.50 per person. Madame Posh, Windsor
Where else to take your mummy in a million this Mother’s Day but Madame Posh. The surroundings at Madame Posh are opulent and enchanting and the food impressive and affordable. Afternoon tea ranges from a yummy scone tea for £8.75 per person all the way to their Moet & Chandon Imperial Afternoon Tea at £38.50 per person. The Cantley House Hotel, Wokingham
This Mother’s Day why not treat the mum in your life to a special afternoon tea at The Cantley House Hotel in the award winning Milton’s Restaurant. This traditional tea includes a selection of sandwiches, homemade scones with jam and clotted cream, a selection of homemade cakes, shortbread and tea and coffee. Coworth Park, Ascot
This Dorchester Collection hotel in idyllic Ascot is a big favourite at Little Ankle Biters HQ. Set in stunning grounds with beautiful walks, this hotel offers serenity and relaxation as well as top notch food and drink. Malmaison Reading, Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea
Why not spoil mum this Mother’s Day with a twist on the Great British Afternoon Tea at Malmaison Reading. Enjoy an indulgent tea with live music entertainment (only on Sunday 11 March) to really make the day a memorable one. You can enjoy a classic tea or really show her how much she’s loved with a champagne or cocktail afternoon tea. Yes please! Christopher Wren Hotel, Windsor
The iconic Christopher Wren Hotel sits alongside the River Thames in the shadow of Windsor Castle, and offers an afternoon tea fit for royalty. Enjoy the custom of high tea in The Brasserie from 2.00pm and mums will receive a special gift too. Whittington’s Tea Barge, Reading
If you’re looking for a Mother’s Day treat with a difference then look no further than High Tea on Whittington’s Tea Barge in Reading. Enjoy sandwiches, scones with jam and lashings of clotted cream, a glass of bubbly and tea and coffee. Afternoon tea on this novel barge will set you back £28.00 per person, and a day you won’t forget in a hurry. You’ll need to book quickly though as places are limited. The Oakley Court, Windsor
The Oakley Court is a quintessential country house set in stunning grounds on the outskirts of Windsor next to the Thames. If you fancy booking a mother’s day afternoon tea where you’ll be walking in the footsteps of many a movie star, then this is the place for you. Treat mum to tea served in The Drawing Room, afternoon tea with a glass of champagne is £45.00 per person with an extra little gift for mums on Sunday 11 March. Donnington Valley, Newbury
Treat mum to a traditional afternoon tea at Donnington Valley in Newbury and enjoy a glass of Taittinger. This family owned hotel is set in stunning parkland not far from Newbury town centre but enjoying a peaceful and relaxed setting perfect for a lazy weekend. £22.50 per person. Fancy something a little further afield…
The Aviator, Farnborough, Hampshire
The Aviator is one of our favourite hotels outside of Berkshire. It’s trendy, with modern design and nestled on the perimeter of Farnborough Airfield – hotels don’t get much cooler. This Mother’s Day you can either opt for their traditional afternoon tea package, or why not push the boat out for that special mum in your life and book their exclusive Nars cosmetics guest speaker event (led by their Global Artistry Director Jane Richardson none-the-less) with a decadent champagne afternoon tea. Danesfield House, Marlow
This beautiful and elegant spa hotel in Buckinghamshire, does a fabulous afternoon tea (well tried and tested by us). As well as great food there are beautiful grounds (all 65 acres of them) to explore should you want to burn off some of those calories afterwards. Afternoon Tea at Waddesdon Manor, Bucks
Make the most of Mothering Sunday with a day at Waddesdon Manor National Trust. You can enjoy the stunning grounds before taking mum for their Nyetimber Afternoon Tea in The Manor Restaurant. Expect lovely dainty cakes and pastries and a selection of savouries, as well as a dedicated afternoon tea menu for children. Adults are £25.00 per person and £10.00 per child. The Ivy Marlow Garden
Already the not-so-new kid on the block, The Ivy Marlow Garden is the perfect treat for mums. Say thank you with afternoon tea served 3.00 – 5.00pm daily. Cream tea starts at £8.75 per person and at the top end champagne afternoon tea is £27.50 per person. This luxurious and decadent hotel and spa in Bagshot is the perfect place if you really want to treat your mum this Mother’s Day.
