The Fox and Hounds in Englefield Green is a relaxed, friendly and very well situated pub nestled just on the edges of Windsor Great Park. We were lucky enough to be invited over for a slap up meal, and boy were we not disappointed.
The pub is large (which is a good thing considering how popular it is), but still manages to feel cosy and homely. We were welcomed by the lovely Tori, the restaurant manager who runs a tight ship and leads a friendly and helpful team at the Fox. I went on a Sunday afternoon dinner date with my little girl, children are welcomed with open arms and my 5 year old certainly approved, ‘mummy, this is the best meal I’ve EVER had.’ No Offence taken, what-so-ever…
There’s plenty of outdoor seating with shade for sunny days at the front of the pub, and a large room at the back with a nifty roof which can open in the summer for extra outdoor space. Clever, huh! You’ll find a car park at the rear of the pub, and baby changing facilities inside. While there isn’t a garden as such, you’ve got Windsor Great Park and Savill Garden a couple of minutes away so why not have a walk first before heading to the Fox for lunch or dinner. Check out our review of Savill Garden here.
The Fox and Hounds Menu
There’s a great menu with loads of choice for both little ones and their adults. Children can choose from yummy mains including; mini fish, chips & peas, spaghetti in tomato sauce, sausage & mash, cheese & tomato pizza, or a children’s roast on a Sunday.
We both had roast dinners being a particularly cold January day, and following a long muddy walk it was just what we needed. The food was delicious, portions extremely generous, and my lamb was served exactly as I had asked for. There were yorkies the size of grapefruits (no Aunt Bessies here), seasonal veg, cauliflower cheese, red cabbage and oudles of succulent gravy. We even ordered a side of skinny fries (for research purposes of course…), and I can confirm they were delicious too. All washed down with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and we’re talking a perfect Sunday roast. For pudd we went for ice cream (for the little one), and apple and pear strudel (for the bigger one). My strudel was a little plate of perfection.
Tip – there wasn’t any colouring for the little ones so make sure you bring some books and pencils if they like to have some pre-dinner entertainment.
