This weekend Berkshire is bursting at the seams with fantastic events and days out for families. So if you’re looking for ideas of where to take the kiddies, here are our suggestions for this weekend. All together now, It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year…


Christmas at Twilight, Caversham Nursery School

Sunday 17 December 2017, 4.00 – 7.00pm

Come to Caversham Nursery School this Sunday for Christmas at Twilight. Explore the Christmas trail, meet Father Christmas and his animal friends, decorate gingerbread with Mother Christmas, make reindeer food and enjoy all the festive decorations and lights. The event runs from 4.00 – 7.00pm, and booking is essential. Tickets are £7.00 for children (up to 8 years old) which includes a visit to Santa, a gift and meeting the animals. Adults and older children are £3.00 which gets you a drink and a mince pie. There will also be food and drink on sale on the day.

Windsor On Ice, Alexandra Gardens

Alexandra Gardens is once again home to Windsor On Ice (think ice rinks, rides, food & drink and live music), which runs from now until 7 January 2018. Tickets for skating can be booked online, and we have full info in our review including details on Santa and Tiny Tuesdays.

Alby the Penguin Saves Christmas – The Reading Rep Theatre

Saturday 16 – Sunday 24 December 2017

Alby isn’t just any penguin. Alby is a very special penguin. Alby is a snow-white penguin… Cast off by his fellow penguins, Alby finds himself all alone at the South Pole. When he stumbles across Santa’s list of presents left behind in the snow, Alby realises that Christmas isn’t going to happen unless the list is reunited with its owner. But it’s going to take one very brave penguin to save the day…

Alby the Penguin Saves Christmas is an enchanting story full of music, puppetry and one very special penguin. The perfect festive treat for children aged 3 – 6 years and their families. The show runs from 16 – 24 December 2017, with showings at midday and 3.00pm everyday. Tickets are £9.00 each, or £25.00 for a family ticket. Show lasts 50 minutes with no interval.

Peter Pan at The Hexagon, Reading

9 December 2017 – 7 January 2018

Come and join us on a magical journey as we fly away to Neverland this festive season with Peter Pan, the boy who never grew up. Returning due to overwhelming public demand, Cbeebie’s superstar Justin Fletcher will be joining in the fun and mayhem once again as Mr Smee and Paul Morse will be donning another array of fantastic frocks as Nanny McSmee. The Hexagon once again promise a panto full of adventure, with a stunning set, spectacular song and dance routines, a lot of traditional panto slapstick, and of course, a ticking crocodile! Miki, Norden Farm Centre for the Arts, Maidenhead

This Winter don’t miss the beautiful story of Miki. The theatre show will run from Tuesday 21 November – Saturday 30 December 2017, and you can book your tickets now.

Miki, Polar Bear and Penguin live in a very far away place. It’s an icy world where nothing ever grows. One midwinter eve, they make a wish and Miki embarks on a magical adventure in search of a star. Based on the book by Stephen Mackay, this is an inspiring story about friendship, courage and adventure. It features amazing underwater creatures, enchanting music and extraordinary puppetry.

Christmas at Windsor Castle

Why not pay a visit to Windsor Castle this weekend, following in the steps of Harry and Meghan!

Enter into the Christmas spirit when you visit Windsor Castle over this weekend by taking part in a variety of festive activities. There will be so much to see and do for all ages throughout the State Apartments and St George’s Chapel, including a pop-up pantomime, storytelling, Bach to Baby concerts for under 5s, performances from The Queen’s Six, carol singing, a festive floral display and decoration-making workshops and art activities.

The Borrowers Christmas 2017, The Watermill Theatre, Newbury

Angel Academy Christmas Trail, Cliveden National Trust

This Christmas head to Cliveden, one of our favourite places for a crisp winters walk, to take the kiddies on the Angel Academy Christmas Trail from 2 December 2017.

“Every time a bell rings an angel gets its wings.”… but getting your wings is no easy task. You’re invited to Angel Academy, the place where angels train. Learn how to fly, perfect your magic and complete tasks in order to graduate. A fun festive Christmas trail for families.

The Trail costs £5.00 per child and is free for accompanying adults (usual admission to the estate applies). You can pick up your trail pack from the information centre by the main car park. The Christmas trail runs weekends in December and from Wednesday 20 December to Saturday 23 December, from 11.00am to 2.30pm. For more information, click here.

Aladdin at the Pearce Suite Theatre, Maidenhead

Aladdin at The Curve, Slough

Beauty and the Beast Pantomime at the Wilde Theatre, Bracknell

30 November 2017 – 3 January 2018

With the success of Cinderella still ringing in the air, we are pleased announce our 2017 pantomime Beauty and the Beast! The bright and beautiful Belle encounters an enchanted castle in which a Beast who has been struck with a curse hides. Despite her fears, she eventually befriends the castle’s magical staff and learns to look beyond the beast’s hideous exterior, allowing her to recognise the kind heart and soul of the prince who is trapped behind the hex.

Sleeping Beauty Pantomime at The Theatre Royal, Windsor

Beauty and the Beast Pantomime at The Corn Exchange, Newbury

Meet Santa with a Jubilee Boat Trip, Newbury

We’ll be cruising to ‘Greenham Land’ to find Santa! Children enjoy a Christmas story, singing, and plenty of time with Santa during the boat trip which lasts approximately 1 hour. The ticket price of £9.00 includes a good quality present from Santa for children; and the choice of mulled wine or hot drink and a mince pie for adults. Advance booking is essential and tickets will not be available on the day. Please dress warmly for this trip and don’t forget your Christmas hat!

Cost £9 (no concessions) and trips are at 10.00am, 12 noon and 2.00pm on Saturday 16, Sunday 17, Thursday 21, Friday 22 and Saturday 23 December 2017.

Oaktree Garden Centre, Bracknell

Christmas at Oaktree Garden Centre near Bracknell is a very special time for all. Come and visit and see our amazing Christmas display, walk through the Christmas Wonderland, full of lit trees and Christmas scenes. Post your Christmas letter to Santa in our special post box and visit the Reindeer from 26th November till Christmas. There are various packages including grotto experience, breakfast and tea with Santa.

A magical Christmas experience, 4 Kingdoms Adventure Park, Newbury

Follow our elves through a Magical Christmas trail and enjoy a story telling journey full of interactive scenes, characters and activities. Breakfast or Tea with Father Christmas – Wyevale Garden Centre

From 18 November – 24 December, Christmas will be descending on Wyevale Garden Centres across Berkshire. Bring your little ones along and enjoy a delicious, freshly-prepared breakfast or tea! The whole family meets Santa, children decorate a festive biscuit and then choose their very own present to take home. Lego Christmas at Legoland Windsor Resort

2 & 3, 9 & 10, 16 – 24 December 2017

Wonder at the twinkling lights, snow dusted pine trees, exciting seasonal festivities and see the Park as you have never seen it before… all with a sprinkling of LEGO magic. Journey to the heart of the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort and discover a Christmas land with over 30 rides, shows and attractions. See Christmas come to life in Miniland, where guests can spot special LEGO additions to London and Scotland, including a Christmas market in Covent Garden, magical lighting and more. If you are very lucky, you will even spot LEGO Father Christmas delivering his gifts! Our elves will be looking for little helpers to help build LEGO gifts to take home and write letters to Father Christmas. Christmas Roller Skating and Tea with Santa, Bucklebury Farm

Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Mondays between 1 – 23 December 2017

A fantastic festive evening including the chance to skate and enjoy tea with Santa. Suitable for children aged approximately 4 -10 years. £20 per child and one accompanying adult goes free. Activities include: Festive face painting on arrival for all children, feed the donkeys in the festive farm yard lit with sparkling fairy lights, create your own Christmas tree decoration in our creative craft yurt, get your (roller) skates on to join Santa on the rink, decorate ginger bread over hot chocolate with Mrs Claus, afternoon tea with Santa (menu includes pizza, sandwiches and cake, and wrap up for carol singing and a ride home on the ‘polar express’.

Christmas Festival at Odds Farm

Daily from 25 November – 24 December, Christmas is back at Odds Farm, bigger, better and more magical than ever before! Present your Christmas Festival Pass and come and meet Father Christmas, before heading onto the Cuddly Creative Christmas Corner and finally onto the Elves’ Workshop to collect something extra special. Plus, enjoy Festive Entertainment, take part in fun Christmas-themed Arts & Crafts and train to become an Elf at the Elf Academy. Combined with plenty of Christmas Lambs to meet, there’s stacks of festive fun for the whole family.

South Hill Park Father Christmas’ Grotto, Bracknell

From 8 – 24 December, come and see Father Christmas in his comfy and cosy Grotto at South Hill Park. You can write him a letter in the Elves’ post office, make Christmas crafts with the Elves and, of course, meet Father Christmas himself during your very own personalised visit. Are you on his good list? You’ll get a present if you are. This unique Grotto experience will leave you feeling warm and festive, and is the perfect addition to a day at South Hill Park.
