Christmas Lights Switch On Events, Berkshire 2017

With Christmas just around the corner, here are the dates, times and every last twinkly detail for all the Christmas lights switch on events in Berkshire 2017.

Bracknell Christmas Lights, The Lexicon

Saturday 18 November 2017

Christmas at The Lexicon will start on Saturday 18 November 2017, when the town centre will undergo a magical transformation as the Bracknell Christmas lights are switched-on. In keeping with The Lexicon’s celebration of the borough’s amazing forest and green spaces, the lights will feature fabulous mistletoe, ivy and holly highlighted by classical white lights.

The illumination starts in Princess Square at 5.30pm, when to the accompaniment of a choir from Garth Hill College, the Forest Snow Queen will wave her wand to activate the lights. She will then parade through the town centre, lighting-up the avenues and walks as she goes, finishing in Bond Square with the switch-on of The Lexicon’s Christmas tree lights. Bracknell & Wokingham Community Band will play festive carols and tunes, with everyone invited to join in with a Christmas sing-a-long, followed at 7.30pm by a festive performance from local choir, Vocalese. The excitement will build from 3.00pm as festive entertainers, local musicians and choirs will perform throughout The Lexicon, providing a magical Christmas atmosphere.

Datchet Christmas Lights & Fun Day

Saturday 2 December 2017

This year’s Christmas Fun Day takes place on Saturday 2 December 2017, and it’s jam packed with fun and festivities. The day starts with the St.Nicholas Fayre at St.Mary’s Church from 12.30pm to 3.00pm, with stalls, Santa’s Grotto and a cafe. From 3.00pm Father Christmas will be hosting tea at St.Mary’s Church. Come and tell him what you want for Christmas and have a slice of cake! The Family Advent Carol Service with Marlow Town Band will start at 4pm. A candlelit procession from the church will follow the service and that’s when the festivities will start on The Green. Join us for more carols by candlelight with Marlow Town Band, and more Christmas songs. Enjoy food and drink from local businesses as we switch on our Christmas tree lights. And after all that, you can browse the Christmas gift stalls, go and visit Father Christmas in his grotto, have your face painted, and maybe enjoy a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie. Lots of Christmassy fun for everyone to enjoy! We’ll start on The Green at 5pm and be finished by 7.30pm.

Eton Christmas Lights & Carol Service

Thursday 16 November 2017

Eton’s festive season commences on Thursday 16 November 2017 at 5.30pm with the Christmas light switch on evening. There will be a Community Carol service at Eton College Chapel at 6.00pm, followed by a parade through Eton High Street to the Jubilee Square where the lights will be switched on at 7.00pm. There will be community stalls, live music, Santa’s Grotto and real reindeer!

Hungerford Christmas Lights

This year the Hungerford Christmas lights will be switched on on Sunday 3 December 2017. There will be music and entertainment for all the family from 4.00pm, and the lights will be officially switched on at 5.00pm.

Maidenhead Christmas Lights & Fireworks

Saturday 25 November 2017

The Christmas lights switch on event starts at the Town Hall from 4.30pm with live music building up to the lights switching on at 6.00pm, followed by a spectacular fireworks display from the roof of the Town Hall. There will be a Christmas market and free parking in town.

Newbury Christmas Lights

Sunday 26 November

Come along to the Market Place and meet Father Christmas in his grotto from 11:00am. The fun continues with live entertainment on stage from 12:30pm with performances from local acts including Sion Whiley and Paper Houses. The annual Santa Parade sets off from Market Street at 4:45pm and will make its way to the Market Place, ready for the big switch on at 5:20pm. Newbury Artisan Market will also be in town on the 26 November with their festive special! Think quality festive produce, original art, designer crafts & sizzling street food, all mixed in with family activities, live music and special Christmas extras.

Reading Christmas Lights

Thursday 16 November 2017

This year this Christmas lights in Reading will be switched on on Thursday 16 November 2017. There will be two events in the town centre. Festivities at Broad Street Mall will take place from 4.00 – 6.00pm. The switch on ceremony will be hosted by Jack FM personality Neal Veglio, with X Factor contestants Jack and Joel getting the honour of flicking the switch and greeting spectators. Following a social media campaign earlier this year, Reading’s Elvis will also be present as a VIP guest. Over at the Oracle, celebrations will commence at 5.00pm. A River of Light will be unveiled, with beautiful lighting across the 50m stretch of river through the centre. Reading Rock Choir will be performing from 5.30 – 6.00pm, with the lights officially switched on at 6.00pm.

And on Saturday 18 November, more than 450,000 magical lights and an eight metre tall bauble tree will be illuminated in the town centre during the afternoon. There will also be festive live music taking place in Broad Street for all the family to enjoy.

Slough Christmas Lights & Fireworks

Saturday 18 November 2017

Kick off the festive season with an afternoon of fun, fireworks, music and dancing at the Slough Christmas lights switch on event! And all for FREE! Singing and dancing galore will be taking place on stage from 1.00pm, plus giveaways, competitions and much more. Santa joins the fun on stage for the 5.00pm switch on, the sky lights up with fireworks and ‘snow’ tumbles through the air.

Sunningdale Christmas Celebration

The Sunningdale Christmas Celebration will take place on Friday 24 November 2017 from 5.30pm to 7.30pm at the junction of Chobham Road and the A30. Shops & businesses will be open late and you can enjoy a wide range of seasonal activities, refreshments and entertainment. With Santa’s grotto, mulled wine, mince pies, biscuit decorating, face painting, local choirs and much, much more, come along and help us light up Sunningdale.

Thatcham Christmas Lights & Market

Friday 1 December 2017

Taking place from 5.00 – 7.00pm, once again the Broadway will be filled with lots of stalls selling Christmas goodies, festive food and drink offerings and little donkeys! On stage will be live music and entertainment and community carol singing. Father Christmas will be making an appearance and at 7.00pm the Mayor of Thatcham will push the magic plunger transforming The Broadway with hundreds of twinkling lights. This is a free, family event not to missed!

Windsor Christmas Lights & Lantern Parade

Saturday 18 November 2017

With the majestic Windsor Castle as the backdrop and a live programme of entertainment throughout the afternoon this is an event not to be missed. There will be a children’s lantern procession, carol singing and food stalls all culminating in the switching on of the Christmas lights with the cast from Theatre Royal Windsor’s Panto – Sleeping Beauty. Entertainment starts from 3.30pm. The Windsor Castle wall will also feature the annual Christmas projections.

Wokingham Christmas Lights & Winter Carnival

The Wokingham Winter Carnival entitled “Wokingham Through The Ages”, starts at 11.00am on Sunday 26 November culminating in carols being led by the Town Mayor Peter Lucey. The Carnival is a free community event held in the town centre with entertainment for all the family. Attractions for the day include fun fair rides, over 100 food, craft and charity stalls, non-stop free entertainment including a magic show, Punch & Judy, comedy jugglers, clowns and other special entertainers. Santa’s Grotto is again expected to be in the warmth of the Library from 11.00am – 3.00pm. Our younger visitors are very welcome to come and share their Christmas present lists with him. The event will culminate with the switch on of the lights.

Woodley Christmas Lights

Saturday 25 November 2017

The Woodley lights will be switched on on Saturday 25 November with festivities starting at 4.30pm. Visitors will see the Tree of Light from Woodley and Earley Lions, carols with Woodley Churches, the Reading operatic Society and the Woodley Concert Band. There will also be mince pies, mulled wine and roasted chestnuts.
