Football fever has well and truly hit our house with the arrival of the World Cup this week, but it can’t all be about dodgy penalty decisions and the offside rule (still now idea on that…) We know how precious your family time is over the weekend so we’ve pulled together this handy guide to all the best, not-to-be-missed bits happening in Berkshire and the surrounding area this weekend for families, 16 & 17 June 2018.

Wessex Family Fun Day, Maidenhead

Saturday 23 June 2018, 11.00am – 3.00pm

This Saturday is the Family Fun Day at Wessex Primary School in Maidenhead. It runs from 11.00am – 3.00pm and there will be loads going on to keep the whole family entertained. You can expect all of this, and more:

  • Bouncy castle
  • Footie games
  • BBQ, Indian snacks, cakes & ice creams
  • Bar
  • Gift stalls
  • Tombolas
  • Inflatable pillow bash
  • Obstacle course
  • Live music
  • Bungee run

Twyford Kids Triathlon

Saturday 23 June 2018

Due to the success of this event last year in Twyford, it’s coming back again on 23 June 2018. The event is part of the Triathlon England South Central Junior Series. It promises to be a friendly event in a gorgeous 25m heated open air swimming pool and cycle and run around the adjacent field at Polehampton Junior School. Entry is £22.00 per child and closes on 21 June 2018. There will be catering on site, finishers medals, showers and toilets available.

Thatcham Family Fun Day 2018

Sunday 24 June 2018, 11.00am – 4.00pm

This year’s Thatcham Family Fun Day, incorporating the Great Get Together, will take place on Sunday 24 June 2018 from 11.00am – 4.00pm. Bring the kiddies down to Henwick Worthy Sports Field for an afternoon of fun for all the family. Entry is free and you can expect all of this, and more:

  • Hi-5 Fun Run
  • Dog show
  • Farms 2 Ewe
  • A fun fair
  • Sports demos

Newbury Artisan Market

Sunday 24 June 2018, 10.00am – 4.00pm

Newbury Artisan Market takes over the streets this Sunday 24 June. Think quality produce, original art, designer crafts and sizzling street foods, all mixed in with family activities, music and more. The ‘Feast Street’ section will get your taste buds tingling with a mouth-watering selection of locally produced dishes. The designer-makers promise to fill your bags and homes with gifts and all manner of unique designs and vintage treasures. The food producers will fill your cupboards with ciders and sauces , breads and pastries, meats and sweet treats. And the Kids Corner will provide activities and entertainment for the little ones while you have a well deserved coffee.

Hurst Show and Country Fayre

Saturday 23 & Sunday 24 June 2018

The Hurst Show and Country Fayre is a unique event held in Hurst, Berkshire, running over the weekend of 23 & 24 June 2018. In it’s 39th year, this show attracts thousands of visitors every year who come for the rural, friendly, non-commercial atmosphere. This year highlights include; Antiques Valuation Show, the music marquee, hobby horse championships, classic car show, fun dog show, food fair, magician, tug of war, owl handling, Morris Dancing, pony rides, and much more.

The Slime Show at The Lookout Discovery Centre, Bracknell

Saturday 23 & Sunday 24 June 2018

Why are slugs and snails so slimy? Can you really cut, bounce or stretch slime? Come and find out in this sticky, gooey and slime filled show!

Shows run throughout the day on weekends and during Bracknell school holidays. Suitable for children aged 3+ years, who can sit still for half an hour. Shows cost £1.95 on top of your admission cost to the Lookout Discovery Centre. You don’t need to pre-book tickets for the shows, just book them on the day at reception. Plus you’ll get to enjoy all the exciting activities and hands-on science exhibitions at the centre.

Wild West Summer Fair, Speenhamland School, Newbury

Saturday 23 June 2018, 4.00 – 6.00pm

This Saturday from 4.00 – 6.00pm Speenhamland School in Newbury will be having a Wild West themed Summer Fair. There are lots of fun activities and entertainment planned for the whole family to enjoy throughout the afternoon.

Summer Fayre 2018 ‘All Around the World’, Emmer Green Primary School, Reading

Saturday 23 June 2018, 4.00 – 7.00pm

Come along to Emmer Green Primary School in Reading this Saturday for an afternoon full of fun for all the family. There will be lots of traditional stalls, BBQ, bar/Pimms tent, inflatables, ice cream van and performances from local groups.

Stockcross Primary School Summer Fete, Newbury

Saturday 23 June 2018, midday – 3.00pm

This weekend is the Stockcross Primary School Summer Fete. Festivities will kick off at midday and the fun ends at 3.00pm. Hosted on the school field with lots of have-a-go activities, games, stalls, food, a bar, tombola, raffle and music to while away the afternoon. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun!

The Cheese and Chilli Festival 2018, The War Memorial Gardens Basingstoke

Saturday 23 & Sunday 24 June 2018, 10.00am – 5.00pm

The Cheese and Chilli Festival is the only show in the UK which celebrates both Cheese and Chilli within a festival setting. The event is aimed towards the family audience and there is simply something for everyone. There will be lots of trade stands offering cheese and chilli products, crafts, tastings, cooking presentations and demonstrations, As well as this there will also be loads of entertainment for children and adults including pig racing, Punch & Judy, balloon modelling, magic shows, live music, and lots more.

Game of Clues Murder Mystery at Cliveden National Trust

Saturday 23 & Sunday 24 June 2018, 10.30am – 3.30pm

A new year, a new victim, a new killer. Following last year’s crime caper, there’s a brand new outdoor mystery for you and your family to solve. The year is 1853 and, whilst the Sutherland’s are away visiting their London abode, Cliveden’s head butler has turned up dead on the estate. Mr Butter, a rather unsavoury character, was discovered fallen off his chair and smelling of whiskey, but how did he get there?

Follow the outdoors trail to solve the murder mystery. Costs £5.00 per trail and is suitable for children aged 8 years +. Dogs on leads are welcome. The trail runs from 10.30am – 3.30pm.
