What’s on this Weekend in Berkshire for Families: 9 & 10 June 2018

Old Windsor Carnival

Friday 8, Saturday 9 & Sunday 10 June 2018

Old Windsor Carnival always promises to be a fun weekend for all the family. The theme for this year’s carnival is A Grand Day Out. Events will take place on the Recreation Ground in Old Windsor.

This year the festivities kick off on Thursday 7 June from 5.00 – 9.00pm with the opening of the fun fair. Friday 8 June the fun fair will open at 6.00pm kick starting the weekend’s events followed by the Donkey Derby at 7.00pm with fireworks and a beer tent. On Saturday 9 June the float procession will start at 2.00pm as well as the stalls and fun fair being open. 3.30pm approx. will be the arena displays. On Sunday 10 June at 10.30am the football tournaments will kick off followed by a netball competition at 11.00am, and 12.45pm will be Old Windsor’s Got Talent! 2.00 – 4.00pm will be concert and picnic time, so bring a rug and all your favourite picky bits.

Pangbourne Village Fete

Saturday 9 June 2018, midday – 6.00pm

This year the Pangbourne Village Fete is on Saturday 9 June, from midday until 6.00pm. There will be stalls, food and drink, entertainment, games and fun for all the family at this popular annual village event.

Thatcham Rocks at Thatcham Library

Saturday 9 June 2018, 10.30 – 11.30am

Great for children of all ages this Saturday, bring the kiddies to Thatcham Library this weekend for Thatcham Rocks. Kiddies can decorate a rock then hide it somewhere around Thatcham or beyond to be found by someone else, photographed and posted on Facebook.

This costs just 20p per rock and you can simply drop in and pay on the day.

Family Fun Day, Oaken Grove Park, Maidenhead

Sunday 10 June 2018, midday – 4.00pm

Bring the kiddies down to Oaken Grove Park in Maidenhead this Sunday for a family fun day filled with entertainment, fun and games from midday to 4.00pm. There will be food & drink, stalls, live music, dancing and loads of activities to keep little ones happy like go karts, bouncy castles, face glitter and small fair rides. There will also be appearances made during the afternoon by both Elsa and Belle!

Open Farm Sunday, Berkshire

This weekend is Open Farm Sunday, a national event providing local farms the opportunity to open their doors to the public for free, and the following farms are participating locally;

  • Sonning Farm RG4 6TH – The farm, that’s part of the University of Reading, will be open to the public on Sunday 10 June 2018. This promises to be an exciting experience for families with tractor rides, interactive experiences and farm walks. The event will run during the afternoon from 1.00 – 4.30pm, there will be time slots available and it’s essential that you book in advance. To book your place now, click here.
  • Yattendon Estates Ltd RG18 0TP – Yattendon Estate in Hampstead Norreys will be taking part in this year’s Open Farm Sunday and will be offering the following to visitors; tractor and trailer rides, science in farming display, hog roast and refreshments, and much more. The farm will be open from 10.00am – 4.00pm. For more information, click here.
  • Sheeplands Farm RG10 8DJ – This Sunday from 10.00am – 3.00pm Sheeplands Farm will be opening for free to the public and will have loads of fun activities to get involved in. This will include; tractor and trailer rides, meet local beekeepers, face painting, busy bee fact trail, buy strawberries (£1 donation per punnet to charity) and local honey on sale. Seussical Jr. at Heronsgate Leisure Auditorium, Hungerford

Saturday 9 & Sunday 10 June 2018

In Seussical Jr. the Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. This story by Dr. Seuss shows how the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged but ultimately emerge triumphant.

This children’s show by The Community of Hungerford Theatre Company is running on Saturday 9 June at 2.00 & 7.00pm, and Sunday 10 June at 2.00pm. Tickets are £10.00 for adults and £6.00 for children.

The Slime Show at The Lookout Discovery Centre, Bracknell

Saturday 9 & Sunday 10 June 2018

Why are slugs and snails so slimy? Can you really cut, bounce or stretch slime? Come and find out in this sticky, gooey and slime filled show!

Shows run throughout the day on weekends and during Bracknell school holidays. Suitable for children aged 3+ years, who can sit still for half an hour. Shows cost £1.95 on top of your admission cost to the Lookout Discovery Centre. You don’t need to pre-book tickets for the shows, just book them on the day at reception. Plus you’ll get to enjoy all the exciting activities and hands-on science exhibitions at the centre.

Aliens Love Underpants, Theatre Royal Windsor

Saturday 9 & Sunday 10 June 2018

This zany and hilarious tale based on the best-selling children’s book is wonderfully brought to life on stage for the very first time at the Theatre Royal Windsor. With stunning effects, madcap action, original music (and lots of aliens of course!), this fantastically fresh and funny production will delight the whole family. Tickets are available for performances on Saturday (10.30am & 12.30pm) and Sunday (12.30pm). Ticket prices are from £15.00.

Goring Gap Music Festival, The Bull at Streatley

Saturday 9 June 2018, from midday until late

Come to the Bull at Streatley this Saturday from midday for a day of fun and live music. There will be local bands playing throughout the day, a BBQ, outdoor bar, bouncy castle and fun for all the family.

Giffords Circus at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire

7 – 11 June 2018

From 7 – 11 June Giffords Circus will once again be returning to Blenheim Palace with an all-new show. This year Giffords Circus celebrates the birth of the circus which happened near Westminster Bridge in London in 1768.

This is a family friendly show which lasts 90 minutes and is suitable for all ages. Tickets start from £10.00 for children and £15.00 for adults.

Thames Hospice Sunflower Walk, Virginia Water, Surrey

Saturday 9 June 2018, 10.00am

By taking on either the 13k, 6.5k or 4k route, you can walk in memory of a loved one and help Thames Hospice raise vital funds so they can continue caring for local people and their families at life’s most difficult time. All registered adults will receive a Sunflower Walk T-shirt and a medal, and all children will get Sunflower deely boppers and a medal.

This event caters for all ages and abilities and our four legged friends alike, there will be children’s entertainment on offer including face painting and Disney characters. If you’re walking in memory of a loved one, there will be an opportunity to leave a message on the special Memory Tree.

Game of Clues Murder Mystery at Cliveden National Trust

Saturday 9 & Sunday 10 June 2018, 10.30am – 3.30pm

A new year, a new victim, a new killer. Following last year’s crime caper, there’s a brand new outdoor mystery for you and your family to solve. The year is 1853 and, whilst the Sutherland’s are away visiting their London abode, Cliveden’s head butler has turned up dead on the estate. Mr Butter, a rather unsavoury character, was discovered fallen off his chair and smelling of whiskey, but how did he get there?

Follow the outdoors trail to solve the murder mystery. Costs £5.00 per trail and is suitable for children aged 8 years +. Dogs on leads are welcome. The trail runs from 10.30am – 3.30pm.

  • Some great ideas! Our kids are signed up to do the Little Welly Goes Wild obstacle course in Henley-on-Thames this weekend. It looks great fun!
