What better way to spend a lazy summer’s day than chilling out in a lovely pub garden, glass of wine in hand, and all the better if there’s a play area for the little ones to keep entertained. So we decided to pull together a handy guide to some of the best pubs in Berkshire with a garden and play area.

The Pinkneys Arms, Maidenhead

A favourite of ours, nestled in the middle of Pinkeys Green and acres of National Trust land is The Pinkneys Arms. You’ll find an expansive and secluded pub garden and even Terrance the Tractor to keep the kiddies happy. There’s a great menu for both adults and children. Their pizzas are to die for!

Bel & The Dragon, Cookham

We’re big fans of Bel & the Dragon and love that we still get to feel like glamourous grown ups while we know the kiddies will be warmly welcomed. The Cookham Bel offers the best of both worlds with a great choice of child-friendly meals and a terrace with children’s play area and plenty of outside seating, win win! You’ll also love their Scribble Tables and activities to keep little ones entertained during the meal.

The Palmer Arms, Dorney

If you’re looking for somewhere that perfectly combines great pub food, with a chilled family-friendly atmosphere, then you won’t be disappointed with The Palmer Arms in Dorney. There’s a children’s menu and a great pub garden with a children’s playing area. What’s more if you want to combine lunch with a nice family stroll you’ve got Dorney Lake and the Jubilee River right on the doorstep.

The Furze Bush Inn, Newbury

The Furze Bush Inn in Newbury offers family friendly dining and lots of space for children to burn off some energy. Situated in the stunning North Wessex Downs and just 4 miles from Highclere Castle, there are lots of options to combine this with a family walk too. The pub benefits from fantastic gardens and children can play safely in the enclosed space which also includes a play area.

The Waterside, Woodley

The Waterside in Woodley is a friendly pub with a great kids menu including things like ribs, chicken skewers and mac & cheese. It’s tastefully decorated and manages to pull off an upmarket yet family-friendly atmosphere. There’s pub backs on to South Lake, making Waterside’s garden the perfect place to enjoy a warm day.

The Jolly Farmer, Cookham Dean

The Jolly Farmer is an award-winning pub in the pretty village of Cookham Dean, Berkshire. There’s a big pub garden here that’s very popular with lots of seating and a large wooden children’s play area at the rear of the garden. There’s a more limited children’s menu here but we tend to order one of the yummy pizzas and let the kiddies tuck in.

The White Horse, Hermitage

The White Horse in the heart of Hermitage Village, near Newbury, is a great pub for families on a warm day. There’s a really big pub garden with a great play area for the kids so you can enjoy a drink while they’re off having fun. There’s a fab menu including their not-to-be-missed stone baked pizzas. Yum!

Peacock Farm, Bracknell

We love a trip to Peacock Farm on the outskirts of Bracknell. The pub serves good food that’s unpretentious and there’s loads of choice which ticks our box. The children’s menu is great too, we have one fussy eater and we never struggle to find something he’ll enjoy. There’s a pub garden and a children’s play area topping off a good all-rounder pub.

The New Inn, Knowl Hill

The New Inn is on the A4 at Knowl Hill, between Maidenhead and Reading. The pub specialises in Italian and Spanish food and serves up some amazing tapas which we love as a family. Sherlock Inn, Sherlock Row

The Sherlock Inn does great family dining, offering children something a little more sophisticated in the form of dishes like minute steak, rarebreed cheeseburger and crispy haddock goujons. We love the food in this great pub set in the beautiful village of Sherlock Row, just outside Reading. There’s also a nice garden for enjoying a fine summer’s day.

The Fox and Castle, Old Windsor

The Fox and Castle in Old Windsor is well known for its popular pub garden. On a hot day the garden can get pretty busy but there’s good outside seating and the kids will love it as there’s a sand pit, football area, play area and a trampoline. You’ll get good pub grub at the Fox, the children’s menu is limited but full of classics that they’re bound to love.

The Walnut Tree, Bourne End

Just outside of Berkshire, The Walnut Tree is a favourite of ours and I couldn’t go without mentioning it! In Bourne End, this pub has a lovely garden and children’s play area. The menu is great with loads of choice for adults and children. Plus they go the extra mile with some baby products available in the baby changing room.
