What’s on this Weekend in Berkshire for Families: 17 & 18 February 2018

Half term is well under way, and if you have any energy left by the end of the week you’ll be pleased to know there’s loads of not-to-be-missed stuff happening this weekend. If you’re looking for things to do with the kiddies, here’s our guide to what’s on this weekend in Berkshire for families.

Snowdrops at Welford Park, Newbury

Why not pay a visit to Welford Park in Newbury, home of Great British Bake Off don’t cha know, to see their stunning snowdrops in the woodland area and along the River Lambourn. The 2018 snowdrop season runs from 31 January – 4 March. Welford Park is open from 11.00am – 4.00pm. You’ll also find a tea room serving homemade cakes, hot and cold drinks and light lunch options. You may even be walking in Paul Hollywood’s footsteps…

Prices: £7.00 adults, £3.00 children (4 – 16 years), children under 4 are free. Dogs kept on leads are welcome. Donations go to West Berkshire charities.

Chinese New Year Celebrations, Maidenhead Town Centre

Make sure you head into Maidenhead on Saturday 17 February 2018 to join in with the Chinese New Year celebrations – the Year of the Dog.

At 1.00pm the traditional lion dance will depart from the Boy and the Boat statue on the High Street, this will be a sight not to miss for the whole family. Then expect lots of noise and colour with Kung-Fu demonstrations and thunder drumming performed by Eagle Claw Kung Fu School UK.

Finally, don’t miss the free children’s lantern making workshop in the Nicholsons Shopping Centre between 11.00am and 3.00pm.

Sing-a-Long Beauty and the Beast, The Hexagon, Reading

Sunday 18 February, 2.00pm

Singalonga Productions invite you to “Be our Guest” at Sing-a-Long-a Beauty and the Beast. Join us as we celebrate the brand new adaptation of Disney’s iconic fairy tale, with on-screen lyrics so everyone can join in! This is your chance to sing your heart out to the Disney songs of your childhood such as “Be our Guest”, “Belle”, “Gaston” and not forgetting “Beauty and The Beast”.

Our Singalonga host will start with a pre-show, where they will warm up your voices, teach you some hand actions, show you how to use the famous Singalonga prop bags during the film and when to Boo the arrogant Gaston and of course judge the fancy dress competition!

Tickets: £16.00 adults, £11.00 for under 16’s, family tickets also available.

Yucky You Show at The Lookout, Bracknell

In this disgustingly entertaining live science show you can find out all sorts of things like:

  • why mucus is snot a bad thing
  • what happens to the food we eat
  • how long your hair can grow

Our shows run at the weekends and in Bracknell school holidays. Shows cost £1.95 per person, on top of your entry fee. You don’t need to pre-book tickets to our shows, just buy them from reception on the day. Show times are everyday at; 11.00am, midday, 2.00pm, 3:15pm.

Shows are suitable for Primary school age children. A good guide is whether a child can sit still for around 40 minutes, however our presenters are very good at tailoring the content to the show audience. Please note, all shows need at least 10 people to run.

Beale Park Bird Trail, Pangbourne

17 & 18 February 2018

Bring the children to Beale Park in Pangbourne this weekend and as well as all the usual delights found at the park (to see our review, click here), there will also be a bird themed trail for children to follow looking for clues which are dotted around the park. The trail costs just 50p per child on top of the park admission and you’ll also be entered into a fantastic prize draw.

Bring on the Battle this Weekend – Windsor Castle

Bring on the Battle will be taking place every Saturday throughout February and during half term at Windsor Castle. This Saturday 3 February come down from 11.00am – 3.00pm and discover Windsor Castle under siege by taking part in an art workshop and trying on the costumes and armour on display.

Join Scarlett and her side-kick Stanley the Squirrel as they join forces and try to outwit Walter the Wolf. They discover it’s not just the enchanted forest that has magical powers. A forest full of family fun and live music, this is a joyous new version of the classic fairytale.

Kids Eat Free at Bel & The Dragon, Cookham, Reading & Windsor

Come to Bel & The Dragon for lunch or an early supper on Saturday 17 February, and Kids Eat Free until 7.00pm at any of their inviting Country Inns. With a delicious children’s menu that will be sure to please even the pickiest of eaters, fun chalkboard scribble tables and stacks of good old-fashioned board games, children and parents are sure to have a great meal!

Fun on the Farm this Weekend, Bucklebury Farm Park

Come and run wild this weekend at Bucklebury Farm Park on 17 & 18 February 2018.

Something slightly further afield this weekend…

Snowdrop Walk, Cliveden National Trust

If you fancy getting out and about this weekend with the little ones, why not head over to Cliveden National Trust for their self-led snow drop walk. Follow the snowdrops around the estate, the best clusters are expected at Blenheim Lawn, Stable Bank and Ilex Grove. Pick up your trail sheet from the information centre. This trail is free of charge (normal admission to Cliveden applies, free entry with National Trust membership).

Exciting Entertainers

As well as all of the fun of the farm and it’s numerous activities and play areas, this weekend you can also enjoy the excitement and exhilaration of Odds Farm Park’s Entertainers! With several shows daily, all the extra fun is included with your entry.

Fresh February Fun

From mid February, come and bottle feed kid goats and meet adorable baby lambs. Runs throughout half term and selected dates in February. Check details with the Farm to see if this is happening before you travel in case dates change.
