Windsor On Ice & a Bite to Eat

Windsor On Ice & a Bite to Eat

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a visit with the kiddies to an ice rink, showing the world you still have your Jayne Torvill moves. Ahem. And if that doesn’t quite materialise there’s always the trusty penguins to scoot around on. Or the bar for a mulled wine or three. This year Windsor On Ice returns to Alexandra Gardens from 18 November 2017 – 7 January 2018. And we were very excited to see it back again.

The main ice rink is undercover meaning rain needn’t stop play, and even has some amazing Strictly-esque mirror balls hanging over head. The smaller rink is open air for the full on festive experience and they are interlinked so you can use both rinks while you’re there. For the Bambi’s amongst us who don’t fancy chancing their luck on the ice, there’s the Ice Bar and Grill serving festive food like bratwurst and hot & cold drinks. There’s also a fair around the rink with dodgems, Flying Dumbos and the Polar Express, to name a few. And the icing on top, you can expect great live music on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Catch Santa at Windsor On Ice this Christmas! Santa will be taking a break from his North Pole duties from midday – 6.00pm on the following dates: Weekends from 25 and 26 November, 9 and 10 of December and then from the 16 December every day through to 24 December. Awesomely you don’t need to book tickets to see Santa, he’ll be strolling around saying hi to the kiddies and if you’ve been really good this year you may even get a photo on his chair with your little ones. In return a donation to their local charity, Swan support, is much appreciated. Charity collection boxes can be found around the ice rink.

Tiny Tuesday sessions will be held on the 21 and 28 November, the 5, 12 and 19 December and the 2 January. These slots are for young skaters to have a dedicated session just for them. The Tiny Tuesday session runs at 10.00am and offers a very calm atmosphere, with no fast skaters, and a relaxed, fun environment. A maximum of 30 little skaters are allowed on the ice during this time to keep the experience enjoyable. Penguin and snowman skater aids will be put on the main rink for use free of charge during Tiny Tuesday sessions. One child per paying adult goes completely free of charge.

Getting there – If you don’t know Windsor too well, Alexandra Gardens is right in the town centre, a couple of minutes walk from Windsor Castle. There’s plenty of parking nearby including; King Edward Court Car Park, River Street Car Park (behind Browns) or the Alma Road Car Park, are some of the more convenient. Both Windsor & Eton Central and Windsor Riverside train stations are a few minutes on foot if you want to leave the car and make the most of the bar!

Fancy a nibble?

The shops and restaurants of Windsor are a stones throw. As you’d expect there are loads of child friendly places to grab a bite for hungry little tummies, and with something for all wallets and tastes. Here are some of our tried and tested favourites all just a short stroll from Windsor On Ice:

Flaming Cow – We love this independent restaurant which specialises in burgers, hot dogs and milkshakes. There’s a great kiddies menu, all meals are £6. Mummies and daddies – try the Frickles… oh my! It’s awesome and compact, so book before you go.

Wagamamas – My little ones love anything involving chopsticks and noodles, and Wagas is always a big hit. Think soups, noodles and rice dishes for under £5. Bargain!

Yo! Sushi – We’re all big fans of sushi and Japanese dining. If you have kiddies with adventurous taste buds have a look at Yo! Sushi. What’s more they’ll love the novelty of the conveyor belt service.

Zizzi – Our favourite Italian eatery in Windsor, Zizzi has Lego décor inside reflecting the local kids top destination! Their Bambini Menu is fantastic value offering 3 courses and a Chocacino for £6.75.

Gourmet Burger Kitchen – Burgers, burgers, burgers. And good ones at that. For the kiddies they can chose a burger, side and a drink for £6.95, all enjoyed in a chilled out, child friendly environment.

And not forgetting… Nandos, Bel & the Dragon, Cattle GridCarluccio’s, Cote and Browns.
